Artillery Novice is the only CB-specific skill you need, you can mostly treat it as a generic blademaster weapon otherwise.Adept has a very long GP on the charged double slash, Striker has one on the draw attack/jumping forward slash. The window is quite long and it's very forgiving. GU has a flash on the shield to show you when the window starts. Guard pointing is worth learning, it gives you a better shield and can let you keep attacking through the block. You can mix in Guard +1 if you want more but it's not necessary. Red shield is the equivalent of the base Lance shield and is quite powerful. Shielding can often let you hold a useful position. Use both the shield and dodging as the situation warrants. This is a very very useful move to either go for a shield charge to red or to shortcut to an AED. It gives you either ED 1 or ED 2 depending on red shield or not. The charge phials move (R+A) can transition immediately into axe mode with the A button when the sword is inserted in the shield.Hit the head if you can with your AEDs, they do a ton of KO damage - more than all but one of the hammer's moves. This is a big improvement and makes it much easier to pull of the cancel. With it on, the AED cancel is always back on the left stick plus X irrespective of where your character is facing. As far as I can tell, all this option does is make it easier for you to hit the AED cancel. There's an option to have movement be relative to where your character is facing (Orientation - set to Type 2).Practice the AED cancel, it becomes second nature very soon. Don't ever use the SAED unless you're in valor style. You can spend some phials quickly in the A axe swings that give you ED I and ED II before going for the AED. Those attacks have a lot of power even without phials and are reasonably quick. Each phial gives you 30 seconds and you can have up to 10 phials worth stored in your shield (5 minutes) so even two full 5 phial loads won't be wasted. No need to wait for it to flash before loading more if there's a lull in battle. Just don't be caught out of red shield mode if you can help it. It's ok to charge it to red with only 3 phials at the beginning of a fight or if you drop out of red shield. Always be in red shield mode! The advantages are many and you never want to drop out of it.The CB flow can seem complex at first but watching good players make transitions can teach you a lot about how to get that flow down. Lots of good advice already, I'll just add to it. Moderators reserve the right to manually approve/disprove posts based on how it affects the quality or state of the sub.
